Robbert Fortgens (1960–2024) Portret, a mixed technique original edition from 2000–2010, 75×75 cm, signed, in good condition, Netherlands, sold by Galerie.
Description from the seller
This painting is executed in mixed techniques and was created by Robbert Fortgens (born 1960). Fortgens was born in Utrecht, studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, and currently lives and works in Antwerp. In his early body of work he was inspired by photographic realism, but after seeing the work of Willem de Kooning in 1988 he made a radical artistic turn toward abstract expressionism. A hallmark of his mature work is the fusion of painting and photography: two seemingly opposing disciplines united in one visual language. By playing with paint, photography, and layering, Fortgens explores the tension between perception and imagination, resulting in a rich, multi-faceted and contemporary oeuvre.
