This beautiful art glass bowl was designed by the renowned Swedish artist Bertil Vallien for Boda Åfors (now Kosta Boda) in 1973. It is a brilliant, mid-century Scandinavian piece from one of Sweden’s greatest art glass masters of the 20th and 21st centuries. From the CIRRUS series, the bowl features a hand-blown clear glass form with distinctive controlled white bubble inclusions throughout the body. The piece is signed on the underside with ‘Boda’ and ‘B Vallien’. It is a fine example of Scandinavian / Nordic design and glass artistry at its very best, It is highly sought after by art glass collectors. CONDITION: Very fine condition, with only very few minor signs of age. DIMENSIONS: 8 cm high, 13.5 cm diameter. BERTIL VALLIEN (b. 1938) is one of the world’s leading glass artists and by far the most internationally celebrated glass designer and sculptor in Sweden. He is considered a glass pioneer, who is fascinated by the beauty and mystery of glass. For Vallien, “glass is an invisible material soaks up the light and forwards it. No other material can accomplish this.” After his studies in glass and ceramics at the College of Arts (Konstfack) in Stockholm and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, he went to work for Boda Åfors (now Kosta Boda). During his 60-plus year career, Vallien’s art work has become highly sought after by glass collectors the world over. His work is notable for its energy and light, and has been featured in many acclaimed exhibitions around the world. In addition, Vallien’s work is represented in permanent collections at prestigious galleries and museums in Sweden and internationally. For Kosta Boda, Vallien has been of enormous importance – not only for his highly prized glass creations, but also as a mentor and source of inspiration for other artists and designers. In 2023, Bertil Vallien and Kosta Boda celebrated 60 years of partnership.
