Description from the seller

This bronze sculpture depicting Pan with Pipes is part of a refined 20th-century terzina produced by the historic Royal Neapolitan Foundries (Fonderie Reali Napoletane). The figure represents Pan, the ancient rustic deity of nature, shepherds and wild landscapes, captured in the act of playing his double pipes.

The young god stands in a graceful yet natural pose, his body modeled with classical proportions and anatomical precision. The raised arms and the delicate rendering of the pipes create a vertical dynamism, while the serene facial expression evokes the timeless, pastoral spirit associated with Pan. The sculpture beautifully conveys the harmony between human form and the natural world — a central theme in Greco-Roman mythology.

The bronze features a rich Pompeian green patina, achieved through controlled heating and chemical treatment of the surface, giving the piece depth, chromatic variation and an antique character. The figure stands on a circular base decorated with a refined classical frieze motif, enhancing its elegance and decorative presence.

Works from the Neapolitan foundry tradition are renowned for their high-quality casts inspired by archaeological discoveries from Southern Italy, particularly those connected to the artistic heritage of ancient Campania.
