Pair of two iron candelabras, Mythological model in antique style from France, dating to 1940–1950, each about 21 cm high with a 10 × 10 cm base, in good used condition with minor signs of wear and imperfections, featuring a central cherub column and four-footed ornate bases.
Description from the seller
These iron chandeliers, made in the mid-20th century, faithfully reinterpret the ornamental taste of the Napoleon III style, where decorative exuberance and a penchant for figurative sculpture coexisted with robust materials and dark finishes. Each piece centers around a cherub modelled with theatrical grace, a rounded body and dynamic gesture, acting as a central column and giving the composition an almost Baroque air. The iron, worked with deep modelling and a dark patina, enhances the volumes and lends the figures a solid, almost architectural presence.
The base, wide and richly ornamented, unfolds vegetal motifs, scrolls, and small volutes that evoke the decorative language of the Second Empire, reinterpreted here with a more popular and artisanal character. The feet, opened at four supports, provide stability and add a touch of theatricality, as if the chandeliers were conceived to preside over a console or a fireplace in an interior steeped in history. At the top, the cups intended to hold the candles maintain the continuity of the design, with worked edges and a profile reminiscent of the antique bronze chandeliers of the nineteenth century.
The ensemble conveys that balance so characteristic of the Napoleon III style: classical-inspired child figures, abundant ornamentation, and a decorative sense that aims to impress without relinquishing elegance. Although made of iron, they retain a noble presence and an antique air that makes them striking decorative pieces, capable of standing out in any setting with a touch of historicist romanticism.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
