Beautiful Polychrome Plaster Figure - Madonna and Child - "Déposé P.V. 305" - France/Belgium - Early 20th Century
A characterful and atmospheric religious sculpture of a Madonna and Child. This multicolored (polychrome) plaster figure is executed in a timeless style reminiscent of the classical Baroque sculptures.
A tender portrayal of the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child in her arms. The refined facial features and the flowing drapery of her garment give the statue a serene appearance.
On the back/base the sculpture is marked with "DEPOSE P.V." and the model number "305". The term 'Déposé' indicates that it is a legally protected design, which was common for the renowned ateliers of the time.
The statue is hand-painted in deep tones of blue, gold, and red (polychromy), which provides a beautiful depth and an antique patina.
