Description from the seller
Exquisitely decorated brass sanctus bell with Evangelical symbols – Latin inscriptions – circa 20th century
A particularly charming and richly worked brass sanctus bell (altar bell), fully adorned all around with deep relief and featuring Latin inscriptions.
On the band around it the words AQVILA and AGNVS are clearly visible, referring to the traditional Christian symbolism of the four evangelists:
Aquila (eagle)
Agnus (lamb)
Leo (lion)
Pelicanus (pelican)
These symbols are beautifully rendered in the surrounding decoration and give the object a pronounced religious and historical aura.
The bell is made of solid brass and shows a beautiful, natural patina that emphasizes the age and character of the piece. The decoration is vivid and detailed, with floral motifs and animal figures running around the object.
The interior still contains the original clapper, making the object fully functional.
