Large fine Chinese soft-stone seal foo lion - China – 20th Century
On offer is a large Chinese stone seal (chop) with a fine carved foo lion on top. This is a very fine detailed carved seal; it takes a great amount of work to carve the foo lion out of the stone. The appearance and color is very smooth, with a fine age patina. Soft on the touch, nice shine! Very suitable as an addition to the collection or to present as a gift! Provenance: acquired from antique dealer in Germany.
Note: The Chinese chop or seal is used in China for hundreds of years to sign documents, artwork, and other paperwork. The Chinese chop is most commonly made from stone, but can also be made in plastic, ivory, or metal. The Chinese chop is used with a red paste called 朱砂 (zhūshā). The paste is kept in a covered jar when not in use to prevent it from drying out.
Date: second half 20th Century.
Size: measures 15 cm. The base measures ca. 5 x 5 cm.
Weight: 788 gram.
Condition: In fine used condition. No damage, light traces of use only.
Will be packed very well and shipped with registered track/trace, with insurance. Combined shipping possible, we return postage costs.
