Description from the seller
Silvered metal ice bucket produced by the German house WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), probably in the 1950s-1960s, a period during which the manufactory pursued elegant and functional production in a modernist spirit inherited from Art Deco. This utilitarian object, both sober and refined, perfectly illustrates post-war tableware aesthetics, where purity of lines and quality materials take precedence.
The bucket presents a flared silhouette, resting on a stable circular base, with a slightly conical body rhythmically shaped by two discreet horizontal steps. The upper part opens into an expanding neck, softened by a rounded rim, while two symmetric side handles, turned and slightly protruding, structure the whole and facilitate handling. The surface, finely satin-finished, subtly contrasts with the shinier areas, creating a play of light characteristic of high-quality metal productions. The overall piece shows meticulous workmanship, both industrial and precise.
The general condition is good, with signs of use consistent with the age of the piece. There are a few superficial scratches as well as minor areas of silver loss in places, without affecting either the legibility of the shapes or the structural integrity of the object. The interior retains a uniform appearance, and the marks remain clear and perfectly identifiable.
The bottom bears several characteristic marks: the WMF logo confirming manufacture by the famous Geislingen-based production house, the well-known ostrich motif — emblematic of the company derived from its founder Daniel Straub’s name — as well as a number “7”, corresponding to an internal production or model marking. The joint use of these marks, still employed in the mid-20th century on certain productions, confirms the object's authenticity and its place in the continuity of WMF know-how. Founded in 1880, the company quickly established itself as one of Europe’s leading names in silver-plated metal, evolving from Art Nouveau’s naturalistic forms to a more pared-down, functional aesthetic, of which this bucket is an elegant late illustration.
Dimensions are:
- Height: 13.1 centimeters,
- Upper diameter: 13.3 centimeters,
- Base diameter: 9.4 centimeters,
- Weight: 425 grams.
The ice bucket will be carefully packed and shipped promptly in a secure manner. In-store pickup and combined delivery are available. The photos are part of the description.
