AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Beautiful molded crystal footed coupe signed Val Saint Lambert, from the « Valambert » model as reproduced in the famous 1913 catalogue. This piece perfectly illustrates the know-how of the Belgian crystal maker at the beginning of the 20th century, at a time when molded crystal allowed precise reproduction of decors inspired by traditional cutting. Its signature « VAL ST LAMBERT BELGIQUE » on the interior, completed by « VAL ST LAMBERT DÉPOSÉ » under the base, attests to its authenticity and its registration in officially recorded production.

The coupe features a widely flaring bowl, the rim animated by a sequence of rounded gadroons evoking petals. The exterior surface is richly decorated with a dense motif of diamond-point relief, arranged in a geometric lattice, catching and diffracting light with intensity. Inside, a radiating pattern starts from the center, visually structuring the piece and accentuating the depth of the crystal. The foot, short and sturdy, repeats the same decorative elements: alternating facets, swollen volumes and geometric motifs, creating a harmonious continuity between base and coupe. The overall impression is at once structured and ornamental, characteristic of the « Valambert » model.

The condition is excellent, with no chips or cracks. Only a very slight circular hairline inside the coupe is noted, presumably from old use (water level or floral arrangement), along with fine wear nicks under the base, consistent with the piece’s age. The shine and sharpness of the reliefs are perfectly preserved.

At the beginning of the 20th century, and particularly around 1913, the Val Saint Lambert glassworks experienced a period of great prosperity and innovation. The 1913 catalogue marks a major milestone, presenting a wide range of models where molded crystal reached a remarkable level of sophistication. The Valambert collection sits within this dynamic, blending the heritage of 19th-century décors with a shift toward more geometric compositions that foreshadow Art Deco trends. This production testifies to Val Saint Lambert’s ability to combine technical excellence, international diffusion, and decorative richness, consolidating its place among the great European crystalworks of its time.

Dimensions are:
