Otto Piene war ein bedeutender deutscher Künstler der Nachkriegszeit und Mitbegründer der **ZERO-Gruppe** (1957) zusammen mit Heinz Mack und Günther Uecker. Die ZERO-Bewegung steht für **Neubeginn, Lichtkunst, kinetische Kunst, Op Art, Reduktion, Bewegung und Raumwirkung**. Piene arbeitete intensiv mit **Lichtinstallationen, Rasterstrukturen, Feuerbildern (Fire Paintings), Rauchzeichnungen (Smoke Drawings)** und später mit **Sky Art und Luftskulpturen**. Gemeinsam mit Mack und Uecker entwickelte er eine Kunst der **Immaterialität, Dynamik und Wahrnehmung**, die sich bewusst von Informel und traditioneller Malerei abgrenzte und stattdessen auf **Licht, Energie, Zeit und Technologie** setzte.
