Antique Louis XV style cabinet in burr walnut with an oak interior, dating to the first half of the 18th century, about 239 cm high, 190 cm wide and 62 cm deep, weighing 150 kg, origin Netherlands, lockable, in good condition with minor signs of aging and stains.
Description from the seller
High-end cabinet. Very elegant piece of furniture. Circa 1750, a beautiful model: a simple curved base cabinet and a splendidly double-curved bonnet. Top-quality cabinetmaking.
Also see the lighter inlays between the root walnut. Notably the expertly carved ornament in the middle of the bonnet: a floral fan shape. Everywhere there are small examples of artistically carved ornaments. see detail photos.
Under four large drawers, with an interior of quarter-sawn oak. The style is purely French, Louis XV, perhaps made by English cabinetmakers who moved to The Hague to practice their craft there. The lock you see in detail is a consequence of that: these cabinetmakers imported locks and hardware often from England. That is because the Industrial Revolution had already begun there, and they were technologically advanced.
Also interesting is that those cabinetmakers came to the Netherlands: economically, the entire elite kept their money there, so there was a market that was too small for all those skilled cabinetmakers. The English had a zero-sum economic model. The great social inequalities hampered the flow of money to society, to the population. We see this model echoed again in the Atlantic culture. And it is inherent to it.
I ship only to EU countries. Buyers from other countries must arrange their own transport. That can be with UPS, GLS, FedEx, and DHL. Catawiki has a carrier called Brenger. I can advise you.
