Description from the seller
Vintage world globe – West Germany – educational globe with iconic 60s/70s colors
A charming and characterful vintage world globe produced in West Germany, a typical educational object from the Cold War era. This globe combines cartographic precision with a striking and recognizable design from the second half of the 20th century.
The map clearly shows the geopolitical situation of that time, including the designation “Union of Soviet Socialist Republics” and the label “Made in Western Germany.” This makes the globe not only a decorative object but also an interesting historical document that reflects the pre-reunification world map.
The design immediately stands out for its vibrant colors: a light blue ocean, contrasting yellow and green landmasses, and a bright yellow meridian ring on a striking red base. This combination gives the object a distinctive retro look that fits perfectly within vintage interiors, mid-century decor, or a study with a nostalgic atmosphere.
On the globe, next to countries and cities, there are also aircraft icons and flight routes, a stylistic feature commonly used on educational globes from the 1960s and 1970s to illustrate international air travel and worldwide connections. This detail enhances the adventurous character of the object and evokes the optimism of the jet-age era.
The globe rotates smoothly on its plastic meridian and rests firmly on a round red base. Thanks to its compact size, it is ideal as desk decor, a study object, or a collectible for lovers of cartography, design, or vintage school materials.
Through the combination of historical cartography, retro color usage, and West German production, this globe forms a particularly decorative and collectible object.
Condition
Good vintage condition with signs of use appropriate to age. The map shows a few small wear marks that contribute to the authentic character of the piece. See photos for a full view of the condition.
