Description from the seller
“Henry Lansdell was a 19th century British priest in the Church of England. He was also a noted explorer and author. He was the author of a number of books including Chinese Central Asia: A Ride to Little Tibet, which ran to five editions in English and was also translated into German, Danish, and Swedish”.
This work is an account of a journey of some 3000 miles by land and 5000 by water through southern Siberia, with observations on prisons and mines, and on the indigenous peoples. The author departed from London to St. Petersburg, from where he began a journey through Siberia, largely with the intention of visiting prisons and penal institutions.
