Description from the seller

Pair of neo-Gothic altar candlesticks in brass – 19th century

A beautiful and authentic pair of neo-Gothic brass altar candlesticks, made of solid brass and probably dating from the 19th century. These impressive candlesticks are typical of church art from the period when Neogothic enjoyed a revival in Europe.

The Neo-Gothic style arose in the 19th century as a reevaluation of medieval Gothic architecture and ecclesiastical art. Especially in Catholic churches, during this period many liturgical objects were produced in a style inspired by Gothic: verticality, architectural forms and symbolism played an important role. Altar candlesticks like these were used in the celebration of Mass and other liturgical ceremonies.

These candlesticks are characterized by their slender, ascending form with profiled shafts and a broad, stepwise-built base that provides stability. At the top there is a crown-shaped holder with a serrated edge and a central pin, intended to firmly hold church candles. This type of holder was widely used on altars so that candles could burn straight and safely during services.

The warm patina of the brass emphasizes the age and character of these objects. Thanks to their elegant silhouette and historical appearance, these candlesticks are not only a remarkable ecclesiastical artifact but also a decorative element that fits perfectly in classical interiors, historic collections or ecclesiastical art collections.

The candlesticks are in good antique condition with signs of use and patina appropriate to age and use. These signs contribute to the authenticity and historical charm of the object.

A special pair with strong visual presence – ideal for collectors of religious art, church antiques or Neo-Gothic objects.
