Pair of gold alloy wall sconces from Sicily, Italy, dating to 1940–1950, in good condition and in working order, each with two fittings, dimensions 51 cm high, 20 cm wide, 19 cm deep.
Description from the seller
These sconces wall lamps are unique because apparently classic and conventionally decorative are in reality a fantasy that must be discovered by looking at them closely. That's why I think they are intended for a person who wants to be surrounded by objects that defy banality, that intrigues and provokes. They were designed by an artist who "played" with the styles and appearances, who instead of decorating the typical Rococo style arms of the sconces with acanthus leaves, shell shapes or ribbons as we would expect, decorated them with fantastic creatures executed with great attention to details, which seem to challenge each other. A winged lion with a fish tail and a duck's beak roars at a crocodile that menacingly heads towards him (as you can see from the detail images). The creatures seem to be inspired from The Park of monsters from Bomarzo Italy. Even the technical concept of these sconces is special: they are composed of several solid brass elements that are assembled together, which makes the structure slightly flexible.
They work with 4 x E14 European bulbs ( classic or LED) which can also be bought in the USA, Canada, Australia, etc.
The price is for pair.
