Neogothic gargoyle lamp in heavy bronze with an aged copper patina, dating to 1930–1940, origin Spain; in good used condition and in working order; height 43 cm, base 17 × 12 cm.
Description from the seller
The piece rises with the solemn presence of a small winged monster, a gargoyle of imperial bird modeled in heavy bronze, whose metal has over the years acquired a warm hue of aged copper. The figure, upright on its firm, taut legs, naturally supports the body of the lamp, as if the light were an extension of its own vigilant energy. The long, curved neck advances with elegance, ending in a sharp beak that preserves that air between heraldic and fantastic, so typical of the Neo-Gothic.
The body is worked with a blend of ferocity and refinement: insinuated feathers, muscular volumes, small decorative crests that evoke both medieval iconography and the Romantic imagination of the 19th century. On the back, a small ornamental culmination recalls the pinnacles of cathedrals, reinforcing the sense that this creature might have guarded a temple in another life.
The natural wear of time has softened the original bronze sheen, leaving a patina of copper tones that accentuate the depth of the reliefs and bring an almost organic texture. Despite its age, the electrical mechanism works perfectly, integrating into the ensemble without breaking the aesthetic harmony. The base, decorated with motifs that dialogue with the rest of the figure, holds the piece with solid, sculptural stability.
It is a lamp that not only illuminates but imposes character: an object that seems to have been rescued from a castle or a cabinet of curiosities, capable of transforming any space with its powerful and evocative presence.
Certified shipment and good packaging.
