Description from the seller

A dagger of the type 'Jolo Punyal' or 'Moro Gunong', with a wavy blade. Southern Philippines.
This form of a double-edged dagger is the Philippine variant of the Indonesian Kris. It occurs in the south of the Philippines, on Mindanao and in the Sulu Sea. The dagger offered here, a very beautiful 'Punyal', has a locally forged blade with waves. The grip, in typical form, consists of rosewood and metal, with floral and geometric décor cast and engraved. The sheath is likewise made of rosewood and metal. The metal plate is engraved with floral tendrils, the parts are bound with decorated bands, the suspension at the back is made of ornate metal.
A rare and well-preserved piece. circa 1900–1950.; L: 25.5 cm.
