Gianluigi Golfetto: Extensions of Light (2024)
Description of the Work
In this wall sculpture from 2024, Gianluigi Golfetto temporarily abandons canvas and burlap experimentation to confront directly the noble rigidity of brass. The piece presents itself as a metal sheet that seems to have lost its solid nature to become fabric, shaped by an invisible force that alters its flatness.
The surface is not simply bent, but "lived": the undulations and the veins that cross the plate create a plastic dynamism that recalls the movement of a drapery blown by the wind or the irregularities of a natural element.
Material and Conceptual Analysis
Faithful to his exploration of material transformations, Golfetto works brass to enhance its reflective and tonal properties.
* Light as Tool: It is not just an object to observe, but a device that captures the surrounding environment. Depending on the point of view, the light slides along the golden crests and sinks into the shadows of the concavities, changing the perception of volume.
* Contrast Between Order and Chaos: The square geometry of the outer perimeter functions as a rational frame for an interior dominated by a formless and free energy. The folds, while appearing casual, reveal a studied compositional balance, typical of the artist's hand.
* Beyond Metal: As already shown with resins and oxides in his previous works, here Golfetto pushes the limit of the support. The brass ceases to be an industrial barrier and becomes an organic surface, almost a metallic skin bearing signs of inner tension.
Critical Notes
The work fits perfectly into Golfetto's trajectory as an evolution of his investigation into the "cracks" and the "imperfections" of reality. If in his burlap works he sought oxidation and corrosion, in this brass sculpture of 2024 he celebrates resilience and shine, demonstrating technical maturity capable of bending the hardness of metal to the delicacy of a visual emotion.
> "An artwork that does not stay still, but constantly dialogues with space, redefining the concept of two-dimensional sculpture through a play of reflections and distortions."
The work is ready to be hung. Gianluigi Golfetto, professional artist from the province of Treviso, is present in many private and public collections.
