This is an antique elegant jardinière (planter/cachepot), probably from the late 19th to early 20th century.

Characteristics:
Material: gilded metal (usually brass or bronze) with an inner tub in zinc or tin
Shape: oval
Decoration: richly decorated with:
flowers garlands and ribbons (typical of Louis XVI style)
vertical ribs (fluted wall)
graceful handles on both sides
Feet: small decorative feet (often in animal or leaf motif)
Inside: functional metal insert to catch water/soil

Style:

The decorations strongly point to the Louis XVI revival style (neoclassical), popular in France and Belgium around 1880–1920.

Use:
Original purpose as a planter or flower holder
Often used as a salon piece on a table or sideboard
