Antique hand-carved wooden jewellery box from Italy, dating to 1850–1900, made of solid walnut wood.
Description from the seller
Elegant Antique Hand-Carved Wooden Jewelry Box – European Craftsmanship, Late 19th / Early 20th Century
Splendid and charming vintage jewelry box, a precious example of artisanal cabinetmaking dating to the end of the 19th century or the early 20th century. This chest embodies the period's decorative taste, characterized by meticulous attention to detail and the use of warm, durable natural materials.
Solid wood of a noble species (probably walnut or fruitwood), chosen for its tight grain that allows high-precision carving.
The centerpiece of the piece is the sloped lid, richly decorated with a high-relief central motif of floral and foliate designs, enclosed by a perimeter frame featuring geometric motifs and carved festoons.
The box’s perimeter showcases beadwork and dentil moldings at the lower part, which give the object a solid and elegant architectural structure. It rests on four elegant bracket feet integrated into the design.
Lifting the lid reveals the original compartment lined in crimson-red damask fabric, finished with a twisted golden cord trim, typical of luxury productions of the era.
