Description from the seller

Rara Pipa Figurata in Terracotta – Personaggio Indiano con Turbante Rosso – Dipinta a Mano – Cm 21

Incredible figural smoking pipe, a highly collectible piece of great charm and artisanal craftsmanship, made of hand-painted terracotta. This pipe is not just a tool, but a small sculpture depicting the face of a man, probably of Indian origin or Southeast Asian.

Dettagli Scultorei ed Estetici
The Head/Bowl: It is molded in the shape of a human head. The figure is depicted with a stern and dignified expression, with half-closed eyes and wrinkles that attest wisdom and age.

The Turban and Mustache: The most distinctive element is the large bright red turban, modeled with realistic folds. The man has thick gray mustache and matching sideburns, framing a face with strong features. The color contrast between the natural terracotta of the face and the vivid red of the turban is exceptional.

The Interior of the Bowl: The upper opening shows the dark, natural color of baked terracotta.

The Mouthpiece and Style
The pipe features a long straight and slender mouthpiece, made from a light wood (likely bamboo or a similar smoking wood). This combination of a sculptural terracotta head and a wooden stem gives it an authentic, rustic, and historic look. The figurative style recalls the tradition of Meerschaum pipes, but the use of hand-painted terracotta makes it an even more unique and rare piece to find in these conditions.
