Description from the seller
Clemens Briels, born in Son in 1946, is a highly sought-after artist at home and abroad. His artworks are included in various renowned art collections and he was the first Dutch artist to be elected as “Official Olympic Artist” for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002.
Behind Clemens Briels' artworks lies always a story; his works are small anecdotes from a counter-society. Briels developed his own style, ANTIPODISME: he imagines the opposite of the stereotype, the learned. The viewer is confronted with a different, fantastical view of everyday things and is thus often surprised.
Briels depicts experiences he has gained in the Orient, the Caribbean, and North and South America. In addition, traditional Central and South American music is an almost inexhaustible source of inspiration. The Cuban son, mambo, merengue and the souk, with a lightly erotic sauce overlaid on the musical tones, compel him to create intriguing paintings.
Clemens Briels' artworks are never bound by time and reflect universal themes, cosmopolitan visions of everyday life. Briels translates his experiences in his own way, in his own unique fantasy world. Color is the instrument, the story is his message. The artist stimulates the viewer's imagination by showing different images than what we are expected to see. Because we are conditioned by stereotypes and not by imaginative interpretations of the surrounding things and events, the viewer is confronted with surprises.
Dimensions of work with frame: 62 x 56 cm
Dimensions of work without frame: 33 x 30 cm
Viewing is of course possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framery shop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to use this, of course we would be happy to hear from you.
