Description from the seller
Rare Concert Mandolin Ginanni & Kasermann (1945)
High Italian Luthiery – 32-Stripe Maple Back – Excellent Condition
Provenance: Private collection (family estate).
History and Manufacture
We offer at auction a superb example of the classical Italian mandolin, from the famous Ginanni & Kasermann workshop, dated 1945. This instrument represents a perfect blend of period aesthetics and acoustic engineering, crafted in a historical period when wood selection and attention to detail were at the highest levels of the luthier tradition.
Technical Characteristics and Materials
The instrument was conceived for concert performance, as evidenced by its high-end specifications:
The Shell (Back): Crafted with extraordinary workmanship featuring a 32-stripe maple back. The numerous slats certify a high-quality construction typical of professional instruments, guaranteeing superior resonance and exceptional sound projection.
The Fingerboard: Concert version with full extension, enhanced by authentic mother-of-pearl octave markers.
Aesthetic Details: The pickguard features an artistic design of great elegance, with inlays reminiscent of tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl (period materials of excellent workmanship). The accompanying hand rest completes the instrument’s harmonious aesthetic.
Wood Selection: Top made from selected spruce and body from maple, a perfect pairing for a bright, balanced sound rich in overtones.
Condition and Playability
The mandolin presents itself in extraordinary condition for its age:
Tuning Machines: Original and perfectly functional, they stay in tune without signs of slippage.
Playability: The instrument is ready to play. The action (string height) is correct and the structure is solid. To maximize sonic potential, the buyer is advised to replace the strings, which have been unused for some time.
Tonal Character: The sound is described as harmonious, full, and with excellent projection, ideal for classical and baroque repertoire.
Shipping and Packaging
Given the fragility and historical importance of the item, the mandolin will be shipped with reinforced, security-conscious packaging designed specifically for musical instruments. Shipping will be via international express courier with full insurance coverage on the winning bid value and constant tracking.
Why invest in this Mandolin?
Ginanni & Kasermann mandolins are sought-after pieces in the high-quality vintage market. The combination of production year (1945), the exquisite 32-stripe maple back, and structural integrity makes this lot a rare opportunity for both Asian/European art investors and discriminating musicians.
