You are bidding on a good 4/4 violin, labeled "H. C. Silvestre a Paris 1872 HCS".
Condition:
Some repaired woodworm traces.
Description:
Good quality high to medium grained spruce was chosen for the top, and the maple of the one piece back with beautiful narrow grain is softly flamed. Matched sides. The inlaid purfling is a tasteful work of good craftsmanship, just as the shining, golden brown reddish varnish. The whole length of the violin is 595 mm and the back 360 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 166 mm; middle bouts: 112 mm; lower bouts: 201 mm. Full size. The sound is very deep, rich, warm and powerful.
