Extraordinary porcelain plate in the Sèvres decor with Pegasus medallion
France, 19th century
Finely crafted porcelain plate of outstanding decorative quality, executed in the elegant style of the great French porcelain tradition from Sèvres near Paris.
The plate features at the center an artistically designed medallion with a winged Pegasus, set within a richly ornamented mirror in deep purple. The field is in rich green and adorned with finely executed gold garlands, floral elements, and classical trophies. The composition follows strictly symmetrical design principles of the Empire style and impresses with its balanced color and form harmony.
The painting is carefully executed and lends the object an elegant, representative aura, as is characteristic of high-quality French porcelain works of the 19th century.
The reverse bears an underglaze-blue mark in the Sèvres type with a lily, as well as additional hand-painted and incised studio marks, which suggest quality craftsmanship in the milieu of French porcelain production.
Condition: good, age-appropriate preserved condition with slight signs of wear (see all photos)!!
