Buddha statue - Bronze - Thailand - 20th century

A large bronze Sukhothai Buddha statue. The statue is in nice second-hand condition. It shows some light, expected signs of use (see the photos).

The statue is 46 cm tall, 36 cm wide and it weighs 13 kg.

The Buddha sits in meditation with his left hand in his lap. His right hand rests on his knee, fingertips pointing toward the ground to call the earth as witness to his steadfastness. It represents the victory over worldly desires and fear. In art this is known as the Maravijaya pose (or Bhumisparsha Mudra).
