4 beautifully woven reed-mats or "Lhosa"-mats from the DR. of Congo. These mats are hand-woven using reeds or bark of trees, a bit like weaving a basket. It is the Mbole-women which make these decorative mats. Many of the patterns are based on traditional "kengo" or "itoko" body tatouages. These mats are donated by the bride to her in-law family, to show her agility in weaving. Sometimes used as a shroud. Collected in the 1990`s. Size; 32 x 47 cm. apprx.
