Description from the seller
In good condition, the edge is somewhat damaged; see photos.
The object originates from the "Rheinische Altkunst-Werkstätte Hermann Kraus" based in Königswinter. This type of workshop in the early 20th century often engaged in producing high-quality replicas, frames, or the trade in antiquities.
Artist: The handwritten text mentions Bernh. Striegel (Bernhard Strigel), an important German painter (ca. 1460–1528) from the transitional period between late Gothic and the Renaissance.
Subject: The description "Maria m. d. Kinde" stands for Mary with the Child. In the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen in Munich there indeed is a work by Strigel with this title, known as part of the Funk-Diptych.
Location: "München" on the label presumably refers to the location of the original artwork, which can be found in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich.
Height 66 cm, width 45 cm
