Earth-Touching Mudra - Bronze - Thailand - 20th century

Bronze Buddha in the Bhumisparsha mudra. The Bhumisparsha Buddha is always depicted in a seated position, with his right hand resting on his knee and his fingers pointing towards the earth. His left hand rests in his lap with the palm facing upwards. Bhumisparsha means "touching the earth" or "calling the earth to witness." This mudra represents the moment when Buddha was enlightened under the Bodhi tree.
