Oval decorative wall plaque, estimated 1960–1970, in polymer resin or biscuit with a gilded antique bronze frame, showing a bucolic high-relief scene of a couple with a donkey-drawn cart, dimensions 50 cm by 38 cm with a depth of 38 cm and a weight of 1080 g, made in Italy, in Excellent condition with minimal signs of wear, no reserve.
Description from the seller
Elegant oval wall decorative plaque, this piece is a direct counterpart to the "Scène Galante" model (if both items are available for sale). It depicts a bucolic and lively genre scene, executed in high relief.
Subject: The composition features a young couple, possibly travelers or shepherds. The woman sits in a wooden cart drawn by a donkey, and holds a small bowl. A small dog is comfortably settled in the cart. The man, standing, accompanies the cart, either by pushing it or walking beside it. The scene unfolds on a path, near an architectured stone fountain and a large tree.
Style and composition: The work is in the French eighteenth-century neo-Rococo style. The figures are depicted with a high level of detail, conveying a sense of movement and three-dimensionality thanks to the depth of the relief. The background, painted on canvas (or canvas-imitating), portrays a pastoral landscape under a cloudy, gentle sky.
Frame: The frame is exactly the same as the previous one: an oval antique-style gilded medallion in polymer or plaster, ornate with rich Rocaille motifs (scrolls and acanthus leaves) and topped by a pierced crest.
Materials: The central scene is realized in high-quality polymer resin or matte porcelain biscuit. The frame is gilded with an "antique bronze" finish.
Condition: Overall state of conservation is good. The gilded patina of the frame is authentic and the colors of the relief retain their vivacity (refer to the photographs).
Era: Circa 1950-1970.
