A great Dutch master artist who unfortunately only lived 31 years. His entire oeuvre, created between 1907 and 1918, comprises about 150 paintings, mostly in small formats, about 100 drawings and over 40 sheets of graphics, mainly etchings and woodcuts.

Jan Mankes has entered art history as “the most tranquil Dutch painter.” He died young of tuberculosis, something that contributed to the myth-making around his artistry.

Een grote Nederlandse Meester Kunstenaar die helaas slechts 31 jaar is geworden. Zijn gehele oeuvre, ontstaan tussen 1907 en 1918, omvat ongeveer 150 schilderijen, merendeels op kleine formaten, een 100-tal tekeningen en ruim 40 bladen grafiek, voornamelijk etsen en houtsneden.

Jan Mankes is de kunstgeschiedenis ingegaan als “Hollands meest verstilde schilder”. Hij stierf jong aan tuberculose, iets dat bij heeft gedragen aan de mythevorming rondom zijn kunstenaarschap.
