Description from the seller
Rare Latin edition of the famous children's book, with text and drawings by Dr. Heinrich Hoffmann and published by Le Monnier, Florence, 1960.
First published in 1845, "Struwwelpeter" has come to be widely recognized as one of the most popular and influential children's books ever written. In Italy it was published in 1882 under the title “Pierino Porcospino” but remained far more well-known in Nordic countries, where it was the subject of rewritings and parodies.
The Peter story gives its name to the entire work, a collection of ten rhymes that tell the exploits of as many characters; all the young protagonists are in some way disobedient like Peter; some of them are hyperactive, others violent, simply distracted or neglected. Given that Hoffmann was a psychiatrist and also dealt with pediatric patients, the moral, always very clear, usually concerned the themes of health and safety; the ten stories together formed a decalogue of teachings such as: take care of your body, don't suck your thumb, always eat what is on your plate, don't be a rascal at the table, always be prudent, etc.
Dimensions: 21.7 x 15.7 cm - pp. 28 with numerous black-and-white illustrations. Numbered and signed copy. Good condition
