Handsome and complete four volumes set of this important work of Archibald Thornburn's beautifully illustrated and ornithological study of the birds of Britain, with reference to family and subfamily, and details of each individual bird. The set is written and illustrated with total of 192 colour plates (48 per volume); more like finished paintings than prints; by Archibald Thorburn (a Scottish artist who specialised in wildlife, painting mostly in watercolour, who regularly visited Scotland to sketch birds in the wild). Published by Longmans, Green and Co., London, 1925. The books are bound in publishers’ original red cloth, with gilt lettering on spines. Book Dimensions: 22.5 x 14.5 cm and Number of Pages: 176, 130, 168, 154 including index Weight over 3kg unpackaged Condition The books are beautifully bound, designed and illustrated. Firm and well-bound volumes. External covers in nice shape, with some fading to spines, and light wear to corners and spine ends. Internally; in very good condition indeed. Pages are clean, with light foxing on free endpaper pages, and occasionally on the margin of few pages. Inner hinges are very good, and pages are tightly held at gutters. All coloured plates are present, and in fine condition. These books have clearly been much loved. And could be also a valuable addition to a bird lovers' (Please see pictures).
