About the Artist: A Legacy of Excellence
Kosuke Kaneshige is the third son of Toyo Kaneshige, the legendary "Living National Treasure" who revived the art of Bizen. Kosuke is a highly distinguished figure in Japanese ceramics, designated as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property of Okayama Prefecture in 2012.

The Fusion of Sculpture and Earth:
Unlike traditional potters, Kosuke completed his Master’s in Sculpture at the Tokyo University of the Arts (1970). This academic background is evident in the dynamic, tectonic energy of this piece. He does not merely form clay; he "sculpts" it, using bold spatula marks (hera-ato) to create a 3D form that commands presence as an art object.
