Description from the seller

Old Finnish flag from the 1960s–1970s

Beautiful flag of Finland with the recognizable blue Nordic cross on a white background. This flag has a clear vintage look and is made of cotton.

The flag shows signs of use such as discoloration and stains and a small hole, which contributes to the authentic and lived-in appearance.

Finland was part of the Russian Empire from 1809 to 1917. After the Finnish War between Sweden and Russia, Finland was annexed by Russia and transformed into the Grand Duchy of Finland. Although it fell under the Russian Tsar, Finland gained a lot of autonomy and largely kept its own laws, administration, and culture.

Toward the end of the 19th century, however, Russia tried to exert more control, leading to tensions and growing nationalism among the Finns. After the Russian Revolution in 1917, Finland seized its chance and proclaimed independence on December 6, 1917, which was soon recognized.

Finland dimensions: 267 x 135 cm
