Nassouser Heroic Pomp-Theatre, assembled and crowded with the most celebrated heroes of Nassou and Orange; recounting the most remarkable deeds of those houses as they rise and progress. Yet especially concerning the incomparable feats of those heroes in restoring and defending the United Provinces’ freedom. Decorated with various Copper Plates. Contains the exceptionally notable deeds of Frederick Henry and William II up to 1663.
Amsterdam, Jan Jansen, 1663. Two volumes in a contemporary parchment binding, 416+755pp. With frontispiece, 25 portraits and 24 fold-out plates (complete). The fold-out plates are professionally and nearly invisibly reinforced at the edges with strips of Japanese paper, and the flyleaves have been renewed. From the index of volume two the letters A–R are missing. See the photos for a good impression.
First and only edition of this historical work that not only describes the Eighty Years’ War and the English wars, but also gives attention to the West India Company. The fold-out plates show, among other things, victories at Maastricht, Breda, Rijnsberg, Groningen, Jülich, Sluis, etc., and the capture of the Silver Fleet by Piet Hein at Bahia de Todos los Santos.
