Description from the seller

Flags set of Djibouti and Somalia, both located in the northeast of the Horn of Africa.

1. Djibouti, handmade cotton flag with embroidered star
Djibouti's flag was officially adopted on June 27, 1977, the day the country gained independence from France.

Before that, the area was known as French Somaliland and later the French Territory of the Afars and Issas. During the independence movement, various ethnic groups and political currents played a role, and that is reflected in the symbolism of the flag.

Size: 135 x 104 cm
In good condition

2. Somalia, cotton flag with embroidered star. In good condition except for one small tear. See the last photo! Not distracting.

The history of Somalia goes back to antiquity, when it was an important trading region and Islam spread early. In the 19th century it was colonized by European powers. In 1960 Somalia became independent, but in 1969 dictator Siad Barre came to power. After his overthrow in 1991 a civil war broke out and the state collapsed. Since then the country has been slowly recovering, but remains unstable.

Size: 96 x 149 cm
