Dutch early 20th‑century wall console in dark stained wood with an architectural, sculptural form from the Amsterdam School, dating to about 1910–1920, with dimensions 10.5 cm wide, 33.5 cm high and 12.5 cm deep, in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
A powerful and characterful object from the heyday of the Amsterdam School. This wall console, manufactured in the period around 1910-1920, is a beautiful example of the expressive vocabulary for which this movement is known.
The console immediately stands out for its architectural design. The slim, upward-curving back panel with flowing lines and the compact top create a nearly sculptural appearance. The warm, dark-stained wood with subtle color transitions enhances the artisanal character. The form recalls stylized elements from nature, a trait that frequently appears within the Amsterdam School.
This type of wall furniture was designed in the early 20th century as a functional object with strong decorative value. Perfect for presenting a small object, vase, or figurine, while it itself also serves as a piece of art on the wall.
The Amsterdam School arose around 1910 in the Netherlands and is known for its expressive, often handmade designs in architecture and interior. Furniture from this period is relatively scarce and cherished by collectors for its unique shapes and high-quality finish.
