This pan, also known as poffertjespan, was used to bake small, round dough balls. Thanks to the seven deep hollows, several portions could be prepared at once above open flame or on a stove. Such pans were widespread in North Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries and were often made by local coppersmiths.
The specimen is made of copper with an iron handle and fine copper rivets. The warm gleam of the metal contrasts nicely with the dark, patinated interior from use. The long handle and the artisanal construction emphasize the functional and robust character of this early kitchen utensil.
