Description from the seller
French Louis XVI architect’s table, unique of its kind, with a rectangular profile, in mahogany and mahogany veneer, known as "Table à la Tronchin" (circa 1790-1800). The work surface, upholstered in tooled green leather and operated by a pinion-and-rack mechanism, rises and unfolds to form a removable and tilting desk, adjustable via concealed brass mechanical supports in the front legs.
This allows standing or seated work.
The frieze opens to reveal a drawer with a work surface upholstered in green tooled leather and divided into compartments, possibly for papers. The side presents divided compartments, one of which includes a metallic inkwell.
The sides of the table have removable leather-covered leaves in green tooled leather, matching the rest of the main surface, originally used as candle holders.
It rests on four ornamental cylindrical legs ending in feet or sabots of gilded bronze. With key.
