Bertil Vallien - Kosta Boda - Vase - Glass

A stunning free-blown glass bottle vase designed by Bertil Vallien for Boda's Ateljé studio series in the 1960s. This is a piece where you can see the full range of Vallien's experimental glassmaking techniques all in one object. The body is asymmetric free-blown and hand-tooled rather than molded, giving it a raw, organic look. The deep purple glass is layered from within, shifting in depth and intensity as the light moves across it. Around the shoulders, metallic oxide has been applied to the hot glass and partially melted, creating a lava-like crust of bubbled, volcanic texture that contrasts beautifully with the smoother surfaces. Over the entire piece, an iridescent luster finish catches the light and throws off rainbow reflections of blue, gold, and pink. The base is hand-engraved: Boda B. Vallien Ateljé 282. The original "Handmade Boda Sweden" label is still present, predating the 1976 merger that formed Kosta Boda. The condition is lovely. No cracks, chips, or breaks. The base is slightly irregular, as is natural with free-blown studio glass, which causes a very slight wobble, but the piece stands firmly. Wonderful looking piece. Height: 14 cm Width: 8.5 cm Depth: 4.5 cm Please take a good look at the photos, which are an integral part of the description. This lot will be carefully packed and will reach its new owner in exactly the same condition as described.
