An Art Nouveau silver-plated inkwell by Quist (F.W. Quist Metallwarenfabrik, Esslingen, Germany), model number 6357, produced between 1910 and 1925. A wonderful German Jugendstil design, combining architectural geometry with rich ornament. It is built around a central peak with pierced scrollwork on the shoulders. The feet are decorated with clusters of sculpted flowers in high relief, and the trays on either side were designed to hold dip pens. The hinged lid has the original glass ink liner. The central body is engraved with the monogram "D.C." with the date "3/7 1931," when it was given as a gift. Marked on the base: Quist hallmark and model number 6357. The glass liner has a chip on one side. The metal shows some patina and minor scratches. Overall the piece looks great with strong details.
