Description from the seller
Art Nouveau Painted Plant Stand or Side Table, Early 20th Century
A charming and distinctly cheerful Art Nouveau plant stand, rich in decorative appeal and full of personality. The piece is built with four upright legs and beautifully pierced sides, each carved with stylised floral and scrolling motifs. The cut-out flowers and sinuous lines give it that unmistakable Art Nouveau liveliness.
At some point the stand was altered by a former owner, who lengthened the legs. It has also been repainted in a vivid blue, with the flowers picked out in white, yellow and pale blue. So this is not a piece for the purist looking for untouched original condition. What it does offer, however, is enormous decorative charm. In the right setting, it brings eccentric freshness that makes an eclectic interior come alive.
Despite the alterations, it is structurally very sound: sturdy, stable, and standing remarkably straight. It is ready for immediate use as a plant stand, pedestal, or small occasional table.
A joyful piece that wears its history openly and irresistibly decorative.
Condition:
Structurally sturdy and stable, standing straight and suitable for immediate use. Not in original state: the legs were lengthened at a later date and the piece has been repainted. Wear, losses and signs of age and use throughout, consistent with its history and decorative character.
