This anthology collected and edited by E.E. Kisch with 5 pages introduction by him, includes outstanding newspaper writing from many centuries., like reports, essays, critiques, and correspondence from major writers like Voltaire, Dickens, Zola, and Franklin in order to showcase the best of classic journalism.
Egon Erwin Kisch (1885–1948) was a Jewish Czech Austrian journalist from Prague who became famous for his fast, vivid style of reportage, therefore his nickname "Der rasende Reporter" (The restless reporter).. He worked for major newspapers in Prague and Berlin, exposed social injustices, and traveled widely as a foreign correspondent. As a Jew and committed anti- fascist he was persecuted by the Nazis and had to leave Germany for exile after 1933, continuing to write and report around the world.
Egon Erwin Kisch is appreciated as an iconic pioneering figure in literary journalism and for his commitment to social justice and political activism
