Description from the seller
In folio. full red leather with title and gold decorations impressed in dry (i.e., heatless), spine with raised bands, pp. 252. More than 700 richly illustrated medallions with gold, in addition to numerous ornaments. The manuscript reproduces in anastatic facsimile the Martyrology in the version of the monk Usuardus from the Saint-Germain-des-Prés monastery in Paris, which he completed in 860. After a journey to Spain, it also includes in its work the Spanish saints and martyrs. In most of the medallion-shaped miniatures, the saints are depicted in scenes of their martyrdom or at the moment of the burial of their relics. The medallions are arranged along the side and lower margins of the leaves and are linked together by magnificent floral ornaments. Edition of 987 copies (our no. 11° 779) with notarial certification issued on December 4, 1997. The original is exhibited at the Girona Art Museum, owned by the Diocesan Museum of Girona. The commentary is missing.
