Description from the seller
Enamelled porcelain plaque from China
I am selling this rectangular enamelled porcelain plaque, acquired at a depot store, in the city of Rennes (35000). It resembles porcelains produced in the Chinese city of Jingdezhen, the world capital of porcelain. (The handwritten inscription notes that the porcelain was made in Jiangxi Province, further confirming the hypothesis).
On this fine porcelain plaque, a true little visual poem unfolds with unmistakable Chinese elegance. At the center of the composition, two majestic peonies immediately catch the eye: one in a soft, bright pink, the other in a flamboyant orange. They symbolize wealth, beauty and prosperity, values dear to Chinese tradition.
Around them, a branch of flowering plum (meihua) extends gracefully, bearing delicate white flowers and reddish buds. Two lively little birds animate the scene: one, with a chest plumage tinted red-orange, seems to sing joyfully, while the other, perched a little higher, tilts its head with curiosity.
Their presence evokes freedom, harmony and the budding spring.
At the bottom right, a rock with tormented forms, typical of Chinese gardens, adds a touch of rusticity and stability, contrasting with the delicacy of the flowers.
The whole is framed by an elegant border with a repeating black-and-white Greek key (meander) pattern.
