Description from the seller
Amsterdamse School milk- and sugar set with tray – Netherlands, ca. 1920
A particularly characterful milk- and sugar set from the period of the Amsterdamse School, executed in metal with a beautifully matching tray. This ensemble exudes the strong formal language and the artisanal character that is so characteristic of Dutch design from the early 20th century.
The set consists of a sugar pot with lid and a milk jug, both made of warm-toned copper with a subtle patina that underscores the age and authenticity. The shapes are sober yet powerful: rounded volumes, geometric handles and decorative concentric lines in the metal. The small square decorative relief details on the ears of the sugar pot are a typical graphic accent that perfectly aligns with the Amsterdamse School aesthetic.
The milk jug features a characteristic angular handle and an expressive pouring spout, combining functional design with a pronounced architectural appearance. The interior shows the natural wear of the copper, contributing to the authentic vintage character.
The set is presented on a stunning Art Deco / Amsterdamse School tray. This oval tray blends a wooden surface with a beautiful geometric veneer pattern, a metal rim and striking black handles. The contrast between wood, metal and dark accents perfectly reflects the material combinations popular in interiors from the twenties.
The Amsterdamse School (circa 1910–1935) was an influential Dutch design movement that encompassed architecture, furniture and utilitarian objects. Designs from this period are characterized by expressive forms, artisanal details and the use of high-quality materials. Even smaller objects such as crockery and table accessories were designed with the same attention to form and composition.
Thus this milk- and sugar set is not only a functional object, but also a beautiful decorative collectible for lovers of Art Deco, Amsterdamse School and Dutch design from the interwar period.
The whole stands particularly stylishly on a sideboard, bar or coffee table and can be presented both as a practical object and as a decorative design piece.
