Description from the seller
Splendid and unusual tabletop mirror in finely carved, hand-decorated wood, dating from the late 19th century or early 20th century. A unique piece of furniture, characterized by an eclectic and theatrical taste that calls to mind the atmospheres of Commedia dell'Arte.
Main Features:
• Subject: Grotesque depiction of a jester/Zanni in a dynamic pose, holding a central shield, flanked by a fantastical creature (chimera/eagle) with polychrome details.
• Materials: Solid wood frame with a finish in gold leaf, silver, and red lacquer.
• Mirror: Original period glass with perimeter polishing. The glass shows a fascinating natural oxidation (patina of time) that attests to its authenticity and age.
• Stand: Original back with a perfectly functioning supporting foot ("cravatta").
Condition:
The piece is presented in good original condition. It bears a beautiful patina of time with small signs of wear on the gilding and paint loss that enhance its historical charm (as visible in the photos). It has not undergone invasive restorations, preserving the integrity of the piece.
