Description from the seller
African Professional Djembe - Hand-Carved Solid Wood - 70 cm x 35 cm 5 kg+
Available is a splendid handmade djembe from West Africa, carved from a single block of solid wood (monoxylé work). This is not a cheap tourist souvenir, but a real musical instrument, heavy and resonant.
Djembe (or Djembé), a goblet drum native to West Africa (the area including Guinea, Mali, Senegal and Ivory Coast). An authentic piece, hand-carved from a single trunk of wood (monoxyle). The rough inner surface confirms artisanal, non-industrial craftsmanship. Natural hide, almost certainly goat. It is fixed with a system of metal rings and tensioned with cords (traditional Mali weave). Wood: The color and grain suggest a hard African wood. Commonly used woods include Lenke, Iroko, or African Mahogany. Decorations: The carvings on the base are typical of West African craftsmanship and serve both aesthetic purposes and to improve grip when held between the legs.
Dimensions: Height 70 cm | Skin diameter 35 cm (adult standard size).
Weight: Over 5 kg (ensures stability and deep bass).
Materials: Natural goat skin with high resistance and traditional rope tuning system (Mali weave).
Details: Finely carved base with traditional geometric motifs. The interior is rough, indicating hand-tooling with a gouge.
Conditions: Good aesthetic and functional condition. The skin is intact and well stretched. Price slightly negotiable. The product is sold in the form of "as seen".
