A pair of Victorian handpainted Bristol mantel vases
France - Late 19th century

Produced as symmetrical "mantel pair" to decorate fireplaces.
Made from semi-opaque white milk glass or "satin" glass, which has a soft, matte finish. They feature hand-painted enamel floral motifs, specifically daisies and blue wildflowers, which were very popular in British and Bohemian glasswork of that period.
The top features a distinctive ruffled or crimped rim, a signature style for Victorian decorative glass.
While named after Bristol, England, similar pieces were also produced in Bohemia (now the Czech Republic) and France for the export market.
